Journal Entry 5
Based
on the statement above, share your thoughts on the issue, of how community
video can make changes in people, and the community that they belonged to. You
can give some examples to explain.
All
my life living here, all I see are failed propaganda attempts and backfiring
community videos. For some reason these videos really
provoke reverse psychology in teenagers and young adults. Do the problems lie
with the videos, or with the people? All the videos that tells you to not do
drugs and don’t smoke are like catalysts/ jokes. Humans tend to lack
self-restraint and cannot resist curiosity or the will to enjoy. What is
forbidden simply seems more desirable. And the videos can’t even make us feel
afraid of the consequences, nor is there much feels in its content. It simply
exists as an annoying looping thing on the television with content that nobody
takes in. Therefore I assume that it is the videos that were not well-done
enough. Here is what I assume is what locals have made.
However,
community videos that are relatable, warm and fun would give us positive images
about the thing they are promoting. Let’s say the Hiking Club made a video to
commemorate their achievements and activities. If it is well made, it will
induce emotional connection between the members and the club. It will also
serve as a pushing force to make their future activities better/ the same. On
the extra, it might even attract new members! However if it is poorly made like
the videos mentioned before, a negative feedback will occur immediately, and members
will not be proud of their club and outsiders will not be interested too. From
this case I can see that community videos are two-faced knives- if it is well
received, it will boost the morale of the community and strengthen its identity
and etc., if it is ill received, things will only go down for the community.
That is why some organizations don’t even try to do it. It is better to wait
for a cause for confidence than baselessly trying and failing miserably.
